Can volunteers from remote areas participate?
Yes. Volunteers from remote areas are welcome to participate in our studies. However, to limit you travelling back and forth, we recommend that you choose a study that requires few or no return visits. Can I go to work after participating in a session as part of a study and after receiving medication? Yes. Participation in a study is not expected to prevent you from pursuing your normal activities. What does bioequivalence mean? The term ‘bioequivalence’ refers to a clinical research study that seeks to compare a medication produced by two different companies. One of the two medications is usually already being sold commercially, whereas the other is not. Should I take time off work to be eligible for participation? No. We cannot guarantee participation in a study ahead of time. We must wait for the laboratory results before we can confirm your participation. What is a Phase I study? A Phase I study is often the first instance of administering a new drug in humans, at a stage when only animal and cellular data are available. Primary emphasis is always put on safety, and subjects are usually healthy volunteers. The main objectives of a Phase I study are to determine a safe dosage range for the drug in humans and to conduct tests to see how the drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized and eliminated by the body. Can I participate in several studies? Yes. Volunteers may participate in several studies. However, you may never participate in more than one study at the same time. In addition, you must comply with a waiting period (usually 30, 45, 56 or occasionally even 90 days) between studies. This waiting time is determined by the volume of blood taken during the study and the medication administered (the waiting period will enable your blood to replenish itself). Can I leave your premises during an overnight stay required by a study? No. A stay is a confinement period where you are not allowed to leave the premises for a predetermined period of time. You will be advised in advance of this length of time. Are there private rooms? No. All volunteers sleep in a shared sleeping area on bunk beds or in a shared room. However, during mixed studies, we will make provisions for gender-specific sleeping areas. Are there showers? Yes. You will be provided with the amenities required for showering. However, at certain sites, you may be required to bring your own personal toiletries (towel, soap, shampoo, etc.). Please note that certain items may be confiscated due to specific ingredients in the products. Should I take time off work to be eligible for participation?
